This page explains how the calculators and content on Candle Wax Calculator are checked for accuracy, how errors are handled, and what standards the writing follows. It is maintained by Ian Welkins, who also writes and verifies everything on the site.

How the calculators are verified

Every worked example on the site is generated at build time by the same calculation code that powers the calculators, so the numbers in the text and the numbers in the tools always agree. The calculation code itself is covered by an automated test suite that checks every calculator, every worked example, and the density conversions before any build goes live.

Fragrance oil is calculated on the wax weight before the margin — the convention most suppliers use — and every page states this. The wax density figures are typical values for candle pours, not exact measurements of any one supplier's wax; every page states this plainly and advises a test pour before large batches.

Estimates are labeled as estimates

Volume-to-weight conversion, batch scaling, and unit conversion are exact arithmetic and are presented as such. Fragrance loads and safety margins are choices the visitor makes — every page shows the values in use and lets the visitor adjust them. Wick sizing guidance is labeled as a starting point for testing, not a final answer. Fragrance-load ranges and wick charts are either cited to a named supplier or manufacturer, or labeled as typical values. The site never presents a rule of thumb as an exact measurement.

Corrections

Mistakes are corrected, not hidden. When an error report checks out, the calculator or text is fixed and the correction is noted. Reporting an error is straightforward — see report an error for what to include.

Review cadence

The calculation logic and page content are re-checked on a regular schedule, and immediately whenever a correction is reported. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page shows when the checks described here were last completed.

What this site does not publish

No fabricated data, no invented statistics, and no testimonials. The content sticks to what can be checked: the formulas, the worked examples, and the assumptions behind each figure. The site does not certify candle safety or replace supplier guidance on fragrance loads, curing, and testing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I report a calculation error?

Use the report an error page. Include the page URL, exactly what you entered, the result you got, and what you expected — that is usually enough to reproduce and fix the problem.

How often is the site reviewed?

The calculators are re-checked on a schedule, and every reported error is checked when it arrives. The “Last reviewed” date at the top of this page shows when those checks were last completed.
